#6. Carrefour Atlantic Emporium
📚 CARREFOUR ATLANTIC EMPORIUM
📍 LOCATION: 1869 Upper Water Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦 in the Historic Properties Market Mall on the Halifax Waterfront
Carrefour Atlantic has been operating as both a bookstore and art gallery since 1994. More than 95% of the books in the shop originate from Atlantic Canadian authors, illustrators, and publishers! Their wooden tables and shelves are organized by category, including east coast cookbooks & historic accounts of the Halifax Explosion, and by maritime region (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland & Labrador, Cape Breton). Biographies celebrating hometown heroes like Rita MacNeil, Stompin’ Tom Connors, and Cole Harbour’s Sidney Crosby are abound!
There’s also a section of local, hand-made Nova Scotian gifts (the knitted lobster mittens and hand-painted notebooks caught my eye) as well as traditional handicrafts by First Nations artisans.
